Marae stay then world first sun rise
Engage, embrace, experience – Ngati Porou culture, cuisine and hospitality as you enjoy a day and night on the marae.
We will arrange a meet at a local marae in Ruatoria where you will be traditionally welcomed and made a member of the marae stay whanau (family).
The afternoon can be spent engaging in various marae life activities which could include art and entertainment, hunting for and preparing dinner with your hosts and enjoying good food, great company and locally produced beverages.
You can sleep on the marae or your camper-van. The choice is yours.
The following morning you will link up with Te Urunga-tu - Sunrise Tour and then return to the marae for breakfast, before a poroporoaki (farewell) from the marae.
Bookings are very hard to secure so always plan ahead. Due to the nature of the activity and the condition of the track to the Pou, Sunrise tours will be cancelled if rain is forecast or there has been rain within the last 24 hours.
